BREATHE- THE MOST IMPORTANT PRIMAL NEED

It seems too basic and easy to be true...

Can simply bringing awareness & slowing down breathing lead to faster weight loss & fat loss, improved sleep, better fitness, enhanced health, and overall stress reduction?

YES!

Most of us are in a stressed state ( fight-or-flight response) many times throughout the day, due to a perceived harmful event, attack, or threat to survival.

While it is important to remember, "Don't sweat the little things" anything and everything can be perceived as stressful.

Your physiology doesn't know the difference between a car accident, financial stress, relationship stress, lack of sleep, dehydration, poor food quality, sugar or even too much high intensity exercise.

Regardless of stress there will be a release of hormones that prepare your body to either stay and deal with a threat or to run away to safety.

Blood flow will be directed to the arms & legs to fight & flee and there will be a lack of oxygen and nutrients to the digestive & reproductive systems, which can lead to long term issues of these and other systems.

Heart rate increases and breathing becomes quick and shallow to provide the energy and oxygen to the body that will be needed to fuel a rapid response to the danger.

Although this is a great physiological response to danger, in this day and age we have more perceived stressed than ever before and we are not capable of dealing with it for long.

Approximately 50% of people I observe have an inverted breathing pattern (switched breathing pattern where there is an initiation of breathing from the chest instead of the belly/rib cage area).

It is very difficult to be healthy, lean & fit when breathing is inverted. There also tends to be significant musculoskeletal pain (neck, shoulder, back) and grinding of the teeth to name a few of the side effects.

I have had numerous experiences with coaching clients that were doing well with their nutrition & exercise, but still couldn't lose their excess weight and belly fat until we dialed in their breathing.

When you become aware and slow down your breathing you will feel as if you can control and slow down life!
